Get Your Wish 31: Going Outdoors

The advanced technology and latest things available around stimulate people especially children and youth to stay indoors in doing most of their activities. It seems like a struggle to tear them away from the technology which is so ready for them.

With all the abilities for youth to stay indoors, it is about time to start realizing that being outdoors can be just as beneficial. Playing sports will help us get the activities our body needs. It also enable us keep the ideal of staying shape in mind when we are older.

Among the various sports, team sports are some great options to consider. They are great ways to stay active while striving towards a larger goal. You can choose either the more serious and competitive team sports or the ones which provide a lighthearted way of socializing with friends while competing against others.

The following are some most popular team sports you can choose:

1. Baseball and Softball:

Baseball is one of a few sports that don't use a clock. The game is not over until the last batter is out. It is a ball game for two teams of nine players. The batter hits the ball thrown by the opposing team's pitcher, into the area between the foul lines. He then runs round all four fixed bases to score the run, touching or "tagging" each base in turn. The pitcher must throw the ball at the strike zone. The strike zone refers to a height between the batter's armpits and knees. A ball pitched in this area that crosses over the home plate is called a "strike" and the batter has three strikes in which to try to hit the ball (otherwise he has "struck out").

The fielding team tries to get the batting team out by catching the ball before it bounces, tagging the player of the batting team who is running between bases with the ball, or by tagging a base before the player has reached it. Members of the batting team may stop safely at a base as long as it is not occupied by another member of their team. When the batter runs to first base, his teammate at first base must run onto second. A game consists of nine inning and each team will bat once during the inning. When three members of the batting team are out, the teams swap roles. The team with the most runs wins the game. Sound cool, huh?

Playing baseball or softball, you will need bats, baseball or softball gloves, baseball/softball, cleats and batting gloves.

2. Football

American football is a staple of Sundays. All around America, families gather in their favorite teams' jerseys and watch the game on the biggest television they can find.

The object of the game is to get the ball across the opponent's goal line, either by passing or carrying it across (a touchdown), or by kicking it between their goalposts (a field goal). An American football team has eleven players on the field at the time. The agile offense tries to score points, and the heavy hitting defense holds back the opposition. When in possession of the ball, a team has four chances (downs) to move it at least ten yards up the fields to make a first down. The opposition gains possession if they fail, or by tackling and intercepting the ball.

You will need helmet, face mask, and football pads to protect your body in this vigorous sport.

3. Soccer

Soccer is the most popular sport ever created. It is played almost anywhere around the world.

Soccer is a team sport in which players attempt to score goals by passing and dribbling the ball down the field past opposing defenders, and kicking or heading the ball into the goal net, outwitting the defending goalkeeper. Each team consists of ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Players from the opposing team may challenge the player in possession of the ball. But you cannot perform an illegal of foul tackle. Doing so inside the penalty area, your team will get a penalty. You "had better" do that outside the area :), as your team will only get punished a free kick.

Cleats, shinguard, shorts, jersey and socks are things you need to use in playing soccer. And a ball, of course :)

So, go outdoors guys!
